Women's Studies presents THREE NEW COURSES! Spring '91

W201 WOMEN & ETHNICITY: Confronting Biases
Because we live in a society based on white supremacy, many forms of racism exist. Because the U.S. is a "melting pot" nation, other prejudices also afflict us. Because the U.S. is an industrial society promoting competition, there are a vast number of hierarchies that thrive on the scapegoating of "inferiors." W201 is designed to help us recognize, resist, and overcome destructive biases that devalue people for their race, ethnicity, sex, and sexual preference. It is recoomended for men and women who want to deal with their internal prejudices and for students who want to learn about the mechanisms of bias. There will be much class discussion. The class closes at 25, and there are no prerequisites. See p. 11 of Spring Schedule. Instructor: Dora J. Reynolds.

R364 FEMINIST CRITIQUE OF WESTERN RELIGIONS
This exciting new course will examine major Western religious concepts and texts, asking to what degree feminist critiques are valid. Both standard and feminist texts will be used, including The Laughter of Aphrodite by Carol P. Cbrist. For juniors and up. The class closes at 25. Seep. 10 of Spring Schedule. Instructor: Ted Hengesbach.

W402 FEMINIST LITERARY THEORY
A seminar recommended for seniors interested in feminist theory or in feminist literary critcism. At the university, the current feminist movement began in literature departments, and feminist literary criticism contains social critiques that have been picked up by many otfiler disciplines. The instructor will provide enough background in literary criticism so that all senior students, regardless of background, can comfortably participate. The seminar closes at 10. Advanced registration and prior consultation with the instructor are recorrmended. See p. 11 of Spring Schedule.
