MADONNA KOLBENSCHLAG
Feminist Intellectuals: What Are They Saying?

"Many women might well question the relevance of the contemporary women's liberation movement for their lives here and now. It is precisely this vacuum that a public-oriented feminist program can fill. The average woman, as well as the more informed woman, needs to be able to separate facts from myth, responsibilities from internalized roles, and real from imagined needs. Research in women's psychology, anthropology and sociology offers many contact points which have implications for public policy. Even beyond the sphere of women's legal rights, new perspectives on women's role in the family should have impact on social legislation: in respect to child care, welfare services, health care, parental preparation. New perspectives in psychology have a crucial bearing on educational philosophy and practice, as well as on psychiatric treatment and mental health services." "The visibility of feminist ideas in the marketplace can likewise affect everything from architecture and urban planning to industrial management and career counseling."
