EIGHTH ANNUAL
LUNDQUIST FACULTY FELLOWSHIP LECTURE
APRIL 30, 1993 INDIANA UNIVERSITY SOUTH BEND

One of Elkhart's best-known natives, Eldon Lundquist, pursued many careers. He was a sportscaster, public relations practitioner, hospital development officer, advertising executive, and university administrator. But he is best remembered for service in the Indiana General Assembly from 1961 to 1976.

Eldy was a practical politician. As Senate Education Committee chairman, he left an unmistakable stamp on all major education legislation in the state for more than a decade.
In 1976, Eldy became assistant to the president of Indiana University, with an office at IUSB, where he won the admiration of all who met him. At his untimely death in 1977, friends established an endowment which funds the Lundquist Faculty Fellowship Program. The Lundquist Endowment was created by a committee consisting of Jon S. Armstrong, Glenn L. Banks, Lehman P. Beardsley, Arthur J. Decio, Thomas L. Dusthimer and R. Dewey Welch.

The Endowment was originally used to sponsor public lectures at IUSB. In 1984, the committee initiated the Faculty Fellow Program to recognize and support IUSB faculty members who demonstrate outstanding accomplishments in teaching, scholarship and service to the Michiana community. Since then, the following faculty have been selected by their peers to receive the award:
1985 Harold Zisla
1986 John E. Peck
1987 Robert W. Demaree, Jr.
1988 Patrick J . Furlong
1989 Joseph L. Peyser
1990 Richmond E. Calvin
1991 Tom R. Vander Ven
1992 Gloria Kaufman

This evening honors Eldy and celebrates faculty excellence at IUSB.
