As the culmination of their season's work together, the members of Dr. C. R. Vickery's sociology class complimented their leader and Mrs. Vickery with a dinner at the Oliver hotel Friday evening. Covers were placed for 26, the only guest beside the members of the class having been Miss Carrie Rein, through whose instrumentality the extension classes in sociology have been organized in the city.
William Happ ably and humorously presided as toastmaster and the program included toasts from each of the men present after which the women were unexpectedly called upon for impromptu speeches and were complimented by the toastmaster for their original and clever responses. In appreciation of the courtesies extended to the class by Mrs. Vickery she was presented with an empire basket of Richmond roses.
Besides Dr. and Mrs. Vickery and Miss Rein, covers were placed for Mr. and Mrs. William Happ, Mr. and Mrs. Lenn J. Oare, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Hutchinson, Mr. and Mrs. K. C. Derhodes, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Hansel, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Pettengill, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Elbel, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hatch, H. A. Pershing, Miss Sarah Winnery, George Thorward, Miss Nadine Folsom and Miss Virginia Tutt.
The class has planned to bring Dr. Weatherby of Indiana university to the city for a lecture later in the spring, to which the public will be invited. A committee was also appointed to reorganize the class in the fall for a continuation of its work.
