Kaufman was a professor of English and Women's Studies at Indiana University South Bend from 1967 to 1992. Blakely lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana and was a weekly columnist for the local newspaper, the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette.
This was the first of two anthologies of feminist humor that Kaufman edited, with the second being "In Stitches," published in 1991.
